The origin of Shanghai Asia Pacific Brewery Co. Ltd (SAPB) dates back to 1988 when the brewery was an associate company of APB. The brewery was then called Shanghai Mila Brewery Co. Ltd. In 1995, APB acquired shares from its Chinese partners to increase its ownership of the brewery. By 2000, APB and its parent companies, Fraser and Neave, Limited and Heineken, have further increased their total shareholding in the brewery to 97%. To better reflect APB's ownership of the brewery, it was renamed Shanghai Asia Pacific Brewery Co. Ltd in 2001. Today, SAPB is the name behind the famous Shanghai beer, REEB and the leading international premium brand, Tiger Beer in Shanghai. In early 2004, SAPB started brewing the internationally renowned Dutch brew, Heineken for China. To cater to the increasing consumer preference for light beers in the market, the ISO certified brewery introduced Tiger Crystal in October 2004.
