APB shifted its regional expansion drive to high gear by entering Thailand in 1993 through a joint venture partnership with Thai Life Insurance Company Limited, Thai Pure Drinks Company Limited and Thai Military Bank Public Company Limited for the development of a green field site brewery in the Nonthaburi province. The move has since provided APB access to the huge and fast-growing Thai beer market where per capita beer consumption is amongst the highest in Asia. Thai Asia Pacific Brewery Co., Ltd was opened in 1995 and started brewing and marketing Heineken beer. Over time, the Dutch brew steadily gained popularity and market penetration. Today, Heineken has firmly entrenched itself in the Thai market and is one of the most successful premium beer in Thailand, cornering a 90% share of the premium beer sector. To cater to the increasing market needs, the brewery expanded its brewing capacity to 2 million hectolitres in February 2004. With its added capacity, TAPB started brewing Tiger Beer in July 2004 and embarked on an extensive marketing campaign for the brand. Within a span of one year, TAPB has already successfully marked the footprints of Tiger Beer in all 76 provinces in the country. Aligned with TAPB's long term strategy to become a major player in the Thai beer market, TAPB also added Cheers Beer to its portfolio in September 2005. |
