APB GIVES BACK
From wildlife conservation in New Zealand and preserving the environment in Thailand to awarding scholarships in Vietnam and Indonesia, our regional operations keenly contribute to their respective communities and embrace philanthropy as an important component of promoting a positive corporate culture.
CAMBODIA
- Ongoing: Continual support of Operation SMILE – an initiative that provides reconstructive facial surgery to underprivileged children who are afflicted with cleft lips, a congenital facial deformity.
CHINA
- 2009: Donated equipment and school supplies to a school in support of education.
- 2008: Together with the Chinese National Antartic Expedition, sets of Antaktik Pure Water and Antartik Beer were donated to enable the More Love Foundation raise funds for victims as well as to recognise heroes and donors of the Sichuan Earthquake.
INDONESIA
- Ongoing: Continues with monthly infant food supplies drive to improverished families.
- 2011: Aided an orphanage which needed additional capacity to house more children.
Donated to the Kompas Humanity Fund that benefited victims of the tsunami as well as surviors of the Mount Merapi eruption and West Papua floods.
- 2010: Contributed to better road facility and water supply to the villages living around Sampangagung Brewery, near Surabaya.
Donated personal computers to primary school students in Porisgaga village, Tangerang, and offered scholarships to deserving students.
LAOS
- 2011: Supported the Lao International Foundation Poverty Alleviation to reduce poverty in the country.
- 2008: Extended an unlimited supply of safe drinking water to flood victims in the country.
Became the main sponsor of the Elephant Festival in 2008 – a UNESCO event aimed at protecting the animal as a vital cultural and natural heritage.
MALAYSIA
- Ongoing: Offers scholarships to promising students through the GAB Foundation. Aligned with the scholarship scheme, workshops were also organised to equip the recipients with the skills they need to successfully enter the work force.
Continues to rehabilitate Sungai Way – a tributary of Sungei Penchala which runs behind the brewery. The on-going project aims to improve the water quality of the river, increase awareness and engage the surrounding community in the river cleanup and river management efforts.
- 2011: Through “Big Day Out”, employees organised a blood donation drive and conducted basic health screening for villagers in Hulu Selangor.
- 2010: Through “Big Day Out”, more than 500 employees got one working day off in July 2010 to participate in 31 community projects such as beach cleaning, carrying out repair works at nursing homes and child welfare centres, and raising funds for charity.
- 2008: Provided basic school supplies to needy students from 10 Tamil schools in Tapah, Perak and Batang Berjuntai, Kuala Selangor.
MONGOLIA
- 2008: Made donations to the Association of Utility Organizations, a Mongolian NGO that funds the training of water specialists who improve water utilization and standards in the rural areas of Mongolia.
- 2007: Participated in the annual Selbe River Cleanup to clean the environs of the river running through the capital Ulaanbaatar.
NEW CALEDONIA
- 2010: Organised a can-collection exercise in partnership with WWF, a conservation organisation. Empty cans were gathered for export to New Zealand and proceeds from the project were contributed to WWF in support of their cause.
NEW ZEALAND
- Ongoing: Sponsors Pukaha Mount Bruce, New Zealand’s National Wildlife Centre for conservation of endangered birdlife.
Continual sponsorship of Excelerator, a leadership development and research institute founded by the Auckland University of Business, to enable the development of future leaders in the country.
- 2011: Made donation to the Canterbury Rugby Football Union for rebuilding their grounds and facilities which were damaged by the February 2011 earthquake in Christchurch.
- 2008: Sponsored the Department of Conservations Wetland Restoration project, “Project Crimson”, to replant Southern Rata on the West Coast.
PAPUA NEW GUINEA
- Ongoing: Supports annual national sporting events as well as provincial cultural shows such as the Hiri Moale Festival, Goroka Show.
SINGAPORE
- Ongoing: Engages in community projects to raise funds for the elderly.
- 2011: Stayed committed in reducing packaging waste and won the Singapore Voluntary Packaging Agreement platinum award for reducing the environmental impact of our packaging.
- 2008: Donated electronic items such as LCD televisions and home theatre systems to 20 charities.
SRI LANKA
- 2011: Employees donated a day's salary to flood victims in the north-central province.
- 2009: Made donations to the Parakrama Boys Orphanage – Welisara, and donated equipment to a school.
- 2008: Contributed towards the construction of a road for a school and provided benches to the Mawathagama Hospital.
THAILAND
- Ongoing: Initiated Namjai Thai Asia to improve the quality of life and the environment as well as enable education to benefit the community.
Continues with the Water for Life project that harnesses plants and micro-organisms to further treat wastewater to levels above government regulations, before releasing the effluent into the ecosystem.
- 2011: Flood victims received help and resources through the Namjai Thai Asia initiative.
- 2008: Initiated a ReUse Bottle campaign to encourage recycling by returning empty bottles of its beer brands in exchange for coupons redeemable at local supermarkets. The project was endorsed by the Thailand Institute of Packaging Management for a Sustainable Environment.
VIETNAM
- Ongoing: Annual donations to the Thuong Tin Finance and Planning Department which supports poor farmers in Thuong Tin.
- 2010: Donated to flood victims from five provinces in Central Vietnam in the same year, namely Quang Binh, Quang Tri, Khanh Hoa, Ninh Thuan and Hatin. The funds were distributed to the affected families for reconstruction of their homes and to buy essential food supplies.
A blood donation drive, gathering employees based in Ho Chi Minh City, was organised in collaboration with the Haematology and Blood Hospital.
- 2009: Financial aid was provided for flood victoms of Cyclones Ketsana and Pharma in a number of Central Region provinces. There were also contributions toward the housing of poor families in the Mekong Delta.
- 2008: Supported needy residents with educational scholarships, contributions of funds and food items.
