13 July 2005 Tiger Beer Served at Princeton Reunions
The prestigious Princeton University served Tiger Beer during its Reunions weekend and at all Class Reunions - thanks to Mr Jay Finkelstein of Class '75. Months after his 25th Reunion in 2000, Mr Finkelstein drank his first bottle of Tiger Beer while on vacation in Vietnam with his family. Attracted to the golden tiger on the label of each bottle, Mr Finkelstein started to think about making Tiger Beer a reality for his class after he became treasurer of 1975's 30th Reunion Committee. Tiger Beer seemed a logical choice for Princeton, 30th Reunion Chairman Bill Baumbach '75 said - the Princeton mascot is a tiger. "Without thinking of any other aspect of the beer, it was purely the idea of the Princeton Tiger that made us want to serve this beer at our reunion," he explained, adding,"I was determined to bring in higher quality beer for the entire class." However, when Finkelstein called Tiger Beer USA in July 2004, he learned that the company had no distributor or license in New Jersey. "New Jersey wasn't on our radar for expansion during the first couple of years of Tiger Beer's distribution in the US," said Sean Davis, Market Development Manager for Tiger Beer USA."But the opportunity at Princeton presented itself to us and got us thinking about what we could do." Mr Finkelstein and Mr Baumbach proceeded to work closely with Mr Davis to have its permit to distribute in New Jersey in time for the Reunions Weekend. So, on 1 June 2005, a Tiger Beer truck pulled into the Princeton campus to deliver the all-important social lubricant - 5,760 bottles of Tiger Beer - to the 1975 tent.
