Monteith’s Lager Arrives In The UK This Month

New Zealand’s latest export, Monteith’s, expected to fill gap in premium beer market for genuinely imported New Zealand lager

Today, Monteith's New Zealand lager arrives in the UK bringing with it over 100 years of brewing history and expertise. The full flavoured and refreshingly crisp taste comes from a dedication to use only naturally grown ingredients from New Zealand. Monteith’s will be exclusively available in the city of London through Corney and Barrow bars.

The 5% ABV brew is developed for export markets from the award winning pilsner recipe handed down through the Montheith family since 1868. Brewed with a blend of New Zealand hops of local and European heritage, Monteith’s is a spicy and slightly fruity lager with a late hop aroma and refreshing bitterness that gives a clean, crisp finish on the palate. Its distinct taste comes from the unique brewing traditions which allow Monteith’s brewers to carefully monitor the lager as it slowly matures in open fermenters and nurture the small batches coaxing out the natural flavours.

Monteith’s New Zealand Lager comes in a 330ml green glass bottle that has a distinctly New Zealand look and feel. The glass is embossed with the country’s national icon of a fern and the bottle cap and label are in the traditional New Zealand colours of black and silver. An image of an upright shovel also appears on the label and reflects the association the lager has with the gold mining period of the 1800’s when Monteith’s first started brewing.

Andy Daniels, New Zealand Business Development Manager at Monteith’s says, “We have brought Monteith’s to the UK because we recognised there was a gap in the market for a genuinely-imported New Zealand lager. The UK premium beer market is a dynamic market experiencing considerable growth and with the advent of the warm summer months, we believe now is a good time for the discerning lager drinker in the UK to discover the crisp, refreshing taste of Monteith’s and capture a little bit of the adventurous Kiwi spirit!”

Gemma Adams at Tiger Beer UK limited, distributor of Monteith’s lager in the UK, says, “We’re very pleased to be adding another genuine imported lager to our portfolio and believe Monteith’s will be well received among UK consumers. The growing interest in this category has seen imported beers enjoy double digit growth and with the number of New Zealanders residing in the UK we already have a huge number of brand advocates in place.”

Tristram Hillier, marketing director at Corney & Barrow says, “We are very pleased to offer Monteith’s to our customers as we work hard to move away from the beaten track to source the very best premium imported beers to serve in our bars. We expect Monteith’s to be a very popular lager among our customers and a long term favourite.”
