  • Archipelago Straits Pale awarded Silver in the International Pale Ale category

Asia Pacific Breweries (APB) and its flagship brew, Tiger Beer struck gold at the World Beer Cup 2010 held over the weekend in Chicago, USA. Adding to its past accolades, the company was awarded the prestigious Brewers Association World Beer Cup 2010 Champion Brewery and Brewmaster for the Large Brewing Company category.

"We are deeply honoured to be selected as the Champion Brewery and Brewmaster. While we strive to brew quality beers primarily for our drinkers, it is always a pleasure to be recognised by our peers and the captains of the industry for our commitment to our consistent product quality," said Mr Roland Pirmez, Chief Executive Officer, APB.

At this "Olympics of Beer Competitions", Tiger Beer was critically assessed and tasted by a highly qualified professional panel of international beer judges. Singapore's very own iconic brew beat 58 other entrants to clinch the Gold medal in the International Style Lager category. The Gold accreditation is granted only when the judges determine a deserving brew - one that accurately exemplifies the specific style, displaying proper balance of taste, aroma, and appearance befitting that of a world class brew. This is the second time that Tiger has been conferred this prestigious award at the World Beer Cup.

On APB's latest triumphs, Mr Michael Chin, General Manager of Asia Pacific Breweries Singapore (APBS) said, "Being recognised as the best international lager brewed by one of the best breweries in the world is extremely heartening for us. It also reaffirms how our passion and commitment for excellence has placed both our home-grown brew and brewery among the very best on the world stage."

In addition to Tiger's gold medals, APB's Archipelago's craft beer Straits Pale was awarded Silver in the International Pale Ale category, while Tiger Crystal, a variant of Tiger Beer that is currently available in China, Vietnam and Malaysia received a Gold medal in the Australasian, Latin American or Tropical-Style Light Lager category.

Over the years, Tiger's award-winning taste has won over 40 internationally acclaimed accolades and awards including 25 Gold medals in its illustrious 78-year history. As a fledgling amongst established European beers, Tiger beat the best brews in the world to win its first international award in London in 1939. Tiger's prestigious list of accolades includes Gold medals at the Brewing Industry International Awards 1998 and 1999, the Gold Monde International Quality Trophy for winning the Gold Monde Award since 1968, a Gold medal in the highly-contested European-Style Pilsner category at the World Beer Cup 2004 and now another Gold medal in the International Style Lager category at the World Beer Cup 2010. Tiger was also awarded a Gold medal at the New Zealand International Beer Awards in 2008.
