South Pacific Brewery Ltd (SPB), formerly known as SP Holdings until August 2002, was set up in the early 1950s to serve a very real need of quenching thirsty "territorians" who returned from war. To satisfy that thirst, the brewery launched SP Lager in 1952 and the brew has since been embraced by consumers in Papua New Guinea.
In 1955, APB entered Papua New Guinea by acquiring a stake in the brewery which has been the sole beer brewer in Papua New Guinea since 1983. SPB owns and oversees two plants - one in Port Moresby and another in the town of Lae. SPB brews and markets brand names under SP and South Pacific Special Export in the home market. These brands include the popular SP Lager, South Pacific Export Lager, Niugini Ice, and SP Gold.
SPB is true to quality and focused on excellence. The Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Point accreditation for its two breweries was awarded by the HACCP Australia in October 2002; and its win in the prestigious Manufacturer of the Year Award 2002 testify to its conscientious efforts to give its customers only the best brews from its breweries.
